How a session runs

From first sip to last orders.

  1. First 6 minutes

    The warm-up

A few questions on the week’s topic, so nobody starts cold. Nothing to read beforehand: you just turn up.

  2. Minutes 6 to 16

    The vocabulary

Around ten expressions you’ll need tonight. You match them, define them in English without translating, then check against my answer key.

  3. Minutes 16 to 30

    Read it together

A real article or video, read aloud in turns, with a few questions to make sure it’s gone in.

  4. Minutes 30 to 38

    The debate

I read a statement, you argue for or against it, then you swap sides, whatever you really think.

  5. Minutes 38 to 52

    Language focus and practice

One advanced point, like the language of cause and consequence, with the traps Italians fall into, then straight into practice.

  6. Last 8 minutes

    Last orders: the final task

A role-play that pulls it all together. Last time: briefing a sceptical minister (me) on a worldwide internet crisis.

  7. After the session

Your vocab sheet and the WhatsApp group

A PDF vocab sheet lands after the session, and the WhatsApp group keeps the English going until next week.

From a real session

A taste of last Monday.

Three of the session’s seven sections, exactly as the group saw them.

PHP2Shell: The Week the Internet Went Dark

PHP2Shell: The Week the Internet Went Dark

Plan: warm-up → match and define → read the article together → debate → language focus (cause, consequence and implication) → practice → the Implications Summit.

Debate: Agree or Disagree?⏱ 8 min

I read a statement. One of you argues for it, the other against, about 30 seconds each, then a quick back-and-forth. Swap sides every time, whatever you really think.

  1. Big tech companies should be forced to pay for the free software they profit from.
  2. AI will make the internet safer, not more dangerous.
  3. We’ve become far too dependent on technology we don’t understand.

Language Focus: Cause, Consequence and Implication⏱ 8 min

🇮🇹 Italian traps:

  1. ❌ The leak provoked the closure of many sites. → ✅ The leak caused / triggered / led to the closure of many sites.
  2. ❌ The flaw resulted from a global crisis. → ✅ The flaw resulted in a global crisis.
  3. ❌ It led to close the websites. → ✅ It led governments to close their websites.

I met Anthony through Instagram, watching his smart and funny reels. I liked I could take online individual lessons without wasting time travelling, because it would have been difficult for me between work and daughters.

What I couldn’t know was how brilliant and multifaceted is his mind and his method. You can’t get bored. He helps you to develop your language skill in the deepest and smartest way you can.

It’s like going to an English school and taking all the courses, even extracurricular ones in a single lesson, without you having to move from your home. You can explore grammar and philosophy and contemporary art and deep and existential questions but also history and current issues all in the same lesson.

He’s patient and always cheerful and helpful. He calibrates the exercise to your level, pushing you to take a step further, and encourages even the smallest improvement.

All I can suggest is to have a lesson with him. He is worthy.

BerengarioVienna · Individual lessons

I really enjoyed my lessons with you. Your teaching style is friendly, engaging and well-structured, which makes learning enjoyable and helps you feel comfortable speaking without worrying too much about making mistakes.

I particularly appreciated your patience and the way you adapt the lessons to my needs and level.

Overall, a very positive experience, and I would definitely recommend you to anyone looking for a supportive and effective teacher!

OresteLodi · Individual lessons

I’m having lessons with Anthony and I’m very happy with them. I don’t have much time, but his method is fantastic because it brings together three things: conversation, which helped me loosen up and speak with more confidence; analysing videos, with summaries to prepare between lessons; and grammar, explained clearly and never boringly. Anthony is well prepared, patient and knows how to motivate you. I’d recommend him to anyone who wants to improve their English in a practical way… I started out knowing next to nothing of the language, but I’m enjoying it more and more!

Since I started studying with Anthony my ability to speak and understand English has improved tremendously, even though I had tried other schools.

Beyond the expertise and teaching method Anthony also has the sympathy, simplicity and ability to range from one topic to another allowing for a very fluid and pleasant conversation, without forgetting the educational aspect.

What level do I need?

The Monday group is C1. More days and levels are on the way, so if you’re B1 or B2, get in touch and I’ll tell you when your table is ready.

Do I need to prepare anything?

No. Nothing to read beforehand and no homework afterwards. We read or watch everything together in the session, and the vocab sheet comes afterwards.

How many people are in a group?

A small number, so everyone gets plenty of speaking time.

Can I come to more than one session a week?

For now there’s one session a week, on Mondays at 19:30, Italian time. More days are coming.

What if I miss a week?

You pay after every four sessions you’ve actually done, so a missed Monday doesn’t cost you.

Do I need to turn my camera on?

It helps, because conversation is easier face to face, but it’s your call.

How do I pay?

Once you’ve done four sessions, I’ll send you the details to pay the €70.
